Interesting group initiatives in NZ:
A coalition of medical, environment, resource management, recreational, engineering and transport groups concentrating on developing and advocating for strong climate policies, and campaigning for government action on climate change and ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. Although we are mainly a policy development group, we believe that climate change advocacy and mobilisation are vital. Members of the coalition are:
- CAN (Cycling Advocates’ Network)
- Christian World Service
- ECO (Environmental and Conservation Organisations of New Zealand)
- EDS (Environmental Defence Society)
- Engineers for Social Responsibility
- Federated Mountain Clubs
- Forest and Bird Society
- Greenpeace New Zealand
- Nelson Environment Centre
- Pacific Institute for Resource Management (PIRM) plus Pacific Ecologist
- Public Health Association
- Save Happy Valley Coalition
- Sustainable Energy Forum
- WWF – New Zealand
Those involved in CJA got together because we saw a space that needed to be filled in New Zealand’s environmental and climate change movement. We are a New Zealand based collective committed to advancing social and ecological justice in the context of a world teetering on the brink of ecological destabilisation.
We wish to provide information on climate change related topics through research, education and communication.
A community group dedicated to justice, resistance, education and positive action at the front lines of climate change. Particularly active around fracking and oil-free seas.
Climate campaigners WWF and 350 Aotearoa, and unions the PSA, NZNO, TEU, and SFWU have joined forces to take action on climate change. Called ‘Union Climate Action’, this campaign will give you the opportunity to take action in your own workplace.
And you can see what the Council of Trade Unions (CTU) has to say on climate justice in their November 2013 bulletin.
